Rawat said
they
had approached the HRD ministry recently with a plea to incorporate acts
of valour, bravery and sacrifice of some gallantry award winners in the
teaching syllabus for CBSE schools. “Last month, we published a book
highlighting the gallant acts of brave soldiers. We are hopeful that
this book will become a part of the CBSE syllabus next year. The
ministry has assured us about it,“ he added. He said efforts were to
ensure that all universities and colleges in the country establish a
special gallery of these brave soldiers. “So far, 200 colleges and uni
versities have establis hed such galleries. The rest will have them in
the next two or three years,“ he added.
Rawat was attending an event organised by the B N Srivastava Foundation at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). The foundation has been sending special greeting cards and rakhis to soldiers posted in the forward areas in Jammu & Kashmir and the northeast. The event was attended by 1,100 schoolchildren, teachers and principals.
On the criticism from various quarters, including opposition parties and retired veterans, about the Army being roped in for the Railways' civil engineering tasks, General Rawat said, “We are only assisting the government by doing it. We will construct three railway bridges in Mumbai. Work will start very soon. We feel we can do a faster job before there are more casualties on any of these bridges.“
