The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), from this year, has
started the process of getting examination forms of Class X and XII
verified by parents of students, in order to avoid mistakes like name
spellings and date of birth.
According to officials in CBSE, this step has been taken to minimise the error in vital details, if not completely avoid it. Every year, CBSE gets thousands of cases where parents put in requests to change either the spelling of name or date of birth of a student.
"We want to minimise the mistakes as much as possible from this year. Which is why, before filling the forms now, we are going to send a list of candidates (LOC) containing all the vital information to candidates, so that they can take it home and get it verified by their parents," a senior official in CBSE said.
Since the process this year has already started, the schools have sent LOCs to students and the changes, if any, will be kept with the board, to be updated later.
The decision was taken in the last meeting of CBSE officials, where they also recommended amendment in examination by-laws.
"So far, the teachers had been filling according to the information available with them in the school records. But we have had many instances of parents asking us to change the information. This initiative will change this," the official added.
"This is something which is avoidable, if we take extra care. Class 10th and 12th documents are used at a lot of places and this effort will be one for the public benefit," she added.
