New Delhi: The Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Sunday said that the ministry is ready with a plan for the pending CBSE Board Exams 2020. The minster also added that the evaluation process will start after the lockdown. On the issue of re-opening of schools, the Union HRD Minister said that the decision for the same would be taken on April 14, after the situation is re-assessed.

When asked about government’s post 21-day lockdown plan, the HRD Minister said that it is difficult to take a decision at the moment. The ministry will review the situation on April 14 and based upon the circumstances, a decision will be taken on whether schools and colleges can be reopened now or have to be closed for more time

As for the CBSE Board Exams 2020 and other Exams that have been postponed, HRD Minister said that the plan to conduct the examination after the 21 Day lockdown is lifted was already in place.

Addressing the concerns of millions of students and parents across the country, the HRD Minister has shared that they are ready with the plan for the pending CBSE Board Exams 2020 and resuming the evaluation work after the lockdown ends. As to the decision on when the schools would be re-opened, the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said that the decision for the same would be taken on April 14, after the situation is re-assessed.

Speaking to PRI, the HRD Minister said that the primary motive was to ensure the safety of the students. Also understanding the concerns of loss of academic, the HRD Minister alluded that ministry is preparing a plan to ensure that there is no loss to the students. As for the CBSE Board Exams 2020 and other Exams that have been postponed, HRD Minister said that the plan to conduct the examination after the 21 Day lockdown is lifted was already in place. The exact dates for CBSE Board Exams 2020, however, were not shared by the minister.

Speaking he said, "The classes are already being conducted online using various government platforms like Swayam. We are prepared to ensure there is no academic loss to students if need arises to keep schools, colleges closed after April 14.

"I am regularly reviewing the plan of action being followed by schools and colleges during the lockdown. A plan is also ready for conducting pending exams and evaluation as soon as the situation improves and the lockdown is lifted," Nishank said."It is difficult to take a decision at the moment. We will review the situation on April 14 and depending upon the circumstances, a decision will be taken on whether schools and colleges can be reopened now or have to be closed for more time," Pokhriyal said when asked about his Ministry's post-lockdown plan.

A 21 Day Lockdown was announced by PM Narendra Modi in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the country and possibly flatten the curve. The schools and colleges, however, have been closed for a while now. For many states, the schools and colleges have been closed since March 14.

CBSE has introduced courses on Artificial Intelligence. From this academic year, schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will teach Artificial Intelligence (AI), design thinking, physical activity trainer as part of skill courses. These courses will be available from class 11 onward. CBSE already offers 17 skill subjects at secondary level and 37 skill Subjects at senior Secondary level.

Claiming that a broad-based education is necessary for students to thrive in fast-changing world, CBSE said that the gap-between curricular and extra-curricular needs to be filled. “Mainstreaming all forms of learning and skills will integrate not just hands-on skilling component but also theoretical knowledge, attitudes and mindsent, and sofst ksills that are required for particialr occupation,” the board said in an official curriculum.

Recently, CBSE also introduced ‘applied mathematics’ for students in class 11and 12. This teaches about use and application of math beyond science. It is also available for students who have opted for basic math in class 10. All these courses will be available to students from coming academic year 2021 onward.

These courses have been introduced as skill subjects. As per the rule, if any student fails in any one of the three elective subjects — science, mathematics and social science — then it will be replaced by the skill subject or the sixth subject and result of class 10 will be computed based on best five subjects. For class 12, these subjects are offered as electives.

CBSE asks school principals to inform teachers, students about the Arogya  Setu app

CBSE has written to the school principals to inform teachers, students and staff members about the Arogya Setu app.

In the midst of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and Pan-India lockdown, Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, has written to all of the school principals about the Arogya Setu. CBSE’s letter comes after HRD Ministry secretary wrote to government organisations and bodies like UGC, NIOS etc. about the Arogya Set app. Following this, CBSE has asked the school principals to inform teachers, students and staff members about the app.

Apart from the App, CBSE has also shared a protocol document for immunity boosting which has been developed by the Ministry of Ayush. And teachers are requested to explain the document to the students and parents via available means of communication.

Students, teachers, staff members can download the Arogya Setu app from both, app store and play store. The app has been developed by the government of India in public-private partnership to fight against the Coronavirus outbreak.

The board had released the circular yesterday and asked school principals and teachers to inform students about the measures suggested by the board by the end of the day.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to conduct exams for only 29 main subjects of the 41 pending Class X and XII Board exams which were suspended following the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent suspension of academic activities and lockdown.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to conduct exams for only 29 main subjects of the 41 pending Class X and XII Board exams which were suspended following the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent suspension of academic activities and lockdown. The union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced this on Wednesday. CBSE it its statement said that if will issue instructions for marking and assessment for the other postponed subjects for which there will be no further exams. The Board has also decided to promote all students of classes I to VIII to the next class and also asked schools which could not complete their term-end exams for Classes IX and XII to promote the students to the next grade based on their school-based assessments.

Pokhriyal on Wednesday said: “Have advised CBSE to conduct board exams only for 29 main subjects that are required for promotion and crucial for university admissions. Whenever CBSE is in a position to hold board exams, it shall conduct for 29 subjects by giving adequate notice. For rest of the subjects, CBSE will not hold board exams and instructions for their marking, assessment will be issued soon.”

CBSE was not able to conduct exams on eight examination days due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation after March 18. Further, due to the law and order situation in North East Delhi district the board was not able to conduct exams on four examination days, while a very small number of students from and around this district were not able to appear in exams on six examination days. In all there were two Class X exams and 39 papers for Class XII which include 28 language papers were postponed for the aforementioned situations.

Now the Board has decided to conduct examinations for only main subjects which include six papers for Class X and 11 papers for Class XII students of North East Delhi district, 12 papers for all India students post the lockdown.

The Board has also decided not to conduct any exams for the students of Class X and XII from schools located outside India whose were affected due to lockdown and suspension of academic activities. The system of marking/ assessment for the purpose of declaring results will be worked out by the Board shortly.

While stating that it is difficult to announce the new schedule for the 29 exams to be conducted at present, it assured the students and it will give predict the “notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board examinations,” and also stated that “any decision that the board will take with regard to the conduct of examinations will be taken by undertaking extensive consultation with higher education authorities and by keeping all aspects related to entrance exams, admissions dates, etc. in mind.”

While the Board has decided to promote all the students from Classes I to VIII to the subsequent classes, the senior students of Class IX and XI too this year will be proposed based on school-based assessments including project work, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far.

"For any child who is unable to clear this internal process, (in any number of subjects), the school may utilize this period for providing remedial interventions, and school may give the opportunity of appearing in school-based test/s, online or offline. The promotion of such children may be decided on the basis of such tests."

CBSE Board 2020: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday released a detailed circular regarding the rescheduling of CBSE Board Exams 2020 and promotion of students in classes 1 to 8 to the next class without any examination. CBSE, in its circular, stated that it will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the board examinations.

Important message regarding CBSE Board 2020 revised exam dates:

"With regard to rescheduling board examinations for classes 10 and 12, it is informed that at this stage it is difficult for the Board to decide and announce the new schedule for examinations."

"However, it is informed that any decision that the board will take with regard to the conduct of examinations will be taken by undertaking extensive consultation with higher education authorities and by keeping all aspects related to entrance exams, admissions dates, etc. in mind. In this context, it is further informed that the Board will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board examinations," CBSE said in a circular issued on Wednesday.

This year, the CBSE Class 12, Class 10 Board exams 2020 were postponed due to Coronavirus outbreak in India.

Further, CBSE said that it is difficult for the board to decide and announce the new schedule for Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. It is likely that the board will announce the fresh CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examination dates only after the 21-day lockdown ends.

All the candidates appearing for CBSE Class 10 and CBSE Class 12 board examination across the country are requested to keep a close check on the official website (cbse.nic.in) for latest updates on fresh examination dates.

CBSE Board Exam 2020 postponed in northeast Delhi:

On March 9, the board announced the fresh examination schedule of classes 10 and 12 exams which were postponed in northeast Delhi in view of the recent violence. Due to the law and order situation in North East Delhi District the board was not able to conduct exams on 4 examination days, while a very small number of students from and around this District were not able to appear in exams on 6 examination days.

As per the circular released by CBSE, the board was not able to conduct exams on 8 examination days due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

CBSE to conduct board exams for 29 subjects only:

Further, CBSE informed that the board will conduct examinations for only main subjects that will be required for promotion and maybe crucial for admissions in higher educational institutions.

Therefore, as and when the board is in a position to hold examinations, it shall hold examinations only for the following 29 subjects:

CBSE 10th, 12th Results 2020: Expected result dates

According to experts, it is likely that the CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board results 2020 will be declared by May end only if the board examination gets over in the month of April. After the CBSE Class 12 Board Result 2020 and CBSE Class 10 Board Result 2020 will be announced, all the candidate can check their scores at cbse.nic.in and cbseresults.nic.in.

CBSE Board Exam 2020 evaluation of answer scripts:

Due to 21-days coronavirus lockdown in India, the board has not been able to continue its evaluation work. The CBSE will come out with further instructions for evaluating in the changed circumstances.

Read-Aloud Stories

1. Storytime Anytime has a popular YouTube channel that features classics as well as the “How To Catch” books written by Adam Wallace. The videos also include “Pig the Pug” books, superhero books highlighting some favorites like the Incredibles, Lego DC Super Heroes, Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther.

2. Brightly Storytime is another great resource for read-aloud picture books and flip-along storytime books. Their YouTube channel is split into categories by age, making it easy to find the right book for your child.

4. GreatSchools has math, spelling, reading, counting and science worksheets available for free for children in PreK-fifth grade. You will need to have access to a printer in order to take advantage of all the free resources.

5. ABC Mouse is offering a free month trial of their services, which normally costs $9.95 a month. The site has a full online curriculum with more than 850 lessons across 10 levels that is perfect for children ages two to eight. As your child completes one lesson, they are automatically guided to the next one and can win tickets and rewards. Kids can learn reading, arts, colors, math and science in the more than 9000 activities provided for free.

6. Scholastic is offering the Scholastic Learn at Home Program to students who have been affected by COVID-19 school closures. The site has learning material for students in PreK-ninth grade. Each day, students get a few new tasks, such as reading a book or article, watching a video and completing a few activities.

7. CircleTime helps children have fun while learning. You can either participate in the classes with your child or have them follow the expert instructor by themselves. Some of the options include storytime yoga, interactive storytime, sing-along and playing with colors. If you want to cook or bake with your child, CircleTime has classes that walk you through a few simple recipes. For parents with babies, there are “Baby and Me” yoga classes available as well.

8.PBS For Kids lets you focus your children’s lessons on emotions and self-awareness, literacy, character, social skills, math, science and arts. It’s perfect for children aged two to eight.

9. ScratchJr is available as a free app to teach children ages five to seven how to code. As they solve programs and design projects, your child will be able to program games and interactive stories.

Students preparing for Joint Entrance Examinations (Main) for admission to engineering and architecture institutes are a worried lot after the exams were postponed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Though NTA had previously stated that new dates for the examination would be announced after March 31, the countrywide lockdown up to April 15 makes that doubtful.

“The academic schedule is set in such a manner that we have maximum opportunities to sit for entrance exams to various institutes. With JEE as well as the Central Board of Secondary Education exams postponed, we are worried that some doors will be closed for us,” says JEE candidate Vibhuti Vaidya.

On rescheduling JEE, Shilpa Khanna, physics teacher in a private Chandigarh school, says, “JEE is a national level exam. While deciding its dates, NTA will have to check the availability of the operational structure in examination centres and the release of admit cards. As many exams are already postponed due to this health emergency, NTA will also have to check that other examinations do not clash with JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

JEE (Main), scheduled for April 5, 7, 9 and 11, was postponed on March 18.

“Till April 16, there is a lockdown which could continue till May. Even if JEE (Main) is conducted in the first week of May, I assume JEE (Advanced) and counselling process will be compressed. Usually there is a gap of one-and-a-half months between mains and advanced, but now it could be less,” said Pushkar Rai, centre head, Allen coaching institute.

“I feel that academic year will not be wasted, maybe they will shorten the semesters but we are hopeful that classes will begin on time,” Rai added.

“These are testing times for JEE aspirants as they were on the last lap of their preparation when the exam was postponed,” added Arvind Goyal, a city-based tutor.

Any last-minute delay and uncertainty about a competitive examination causes a lot of stress and anxiety for the aspirants who have been working hard for two years and are just waiting to get over with the exam, he added.

About the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges, Goyal said, “The NEET-Undergraduate is scheduled for May 3. No official notification regarding postponement has been issued. If NEET is delayed by 10 to 15 days it will not have any impact on the session of medical colleges as the session anyway starts on 1st August and admissions continue till end August.”

“Due to the lockdown, we cannot conduct pen and paper mock tests which help students overcome the stress of the actual examination. The students have been given these tests at home. Online classes and tests attempted at home, however, can never compensate for classroom teaching and tests,” he added.

CBSE asks to make lockdown productive

As the 21-day lockdown has been announced, the educational boards are taking various steps to enrich educational methods. On Thursday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its teachers, students and parents to stay at home during the COVID-19 lockdown to spend their time in the best way by taking up different activities using technology to its best.

The letter issued by CBSE ‘Lockdown-An Opportunity for Education’ also asks students to involve in some learning activities. The letter says that this time is ‘productive’ and everyone can use it wisely.

The letter was issued in Hindi on CBSE official website, which is addressed by Secretary CBSE Anurag Tripathi.

In a letter titled released by the CBSE the board has stated that the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD has directed to work from home and ensure that at the same time as responsible educationists the teachers need to be positively constructive. The board also added that the teachers must utilize the time to take up different activities and make the best possible use of technology.

Tripathi also urged students to utilize this time wisely. He gave many tips and ideas to the students of how they can enhance their learning. He encouraged children to involve in some educational activities like reading books, writing stories, writing plays and recording them, singing and painting too.

In a part of the letter, he boosted morale of the parents by advising them to spend most of the quality time with their kids at home.

They can talk and utilize this time to be the best one. Parents can play games and help them in small domestic chores.

Parents and students have been asked to make best use of this time by exploring digital educational content as well.

CBSE says crisis ‘golden opportunity’ to learn something new

Nagpur: In a lengthy letter to all stakeholders, released only in Hindi for unknown reasons, CBSE has called the current crisis a golden opportunity for all as it offered ample time for teachers, parents and students to upgrade and re-focus on real purpose of education.

Board secretary Anurag Tripathi talked about education system in advanced countries and said the content in books and topics being taught at schools were the same, yet there was a difference. Tripathi said in India we focused on teaching while they focused on learning. Since learning outcome was what the education system of advanced countries gravitated towards, it reflected on the final product as well.

In the letter, part a moral booster and part a guideline on how to spend the time ahead, Tripathi wrote parents could think of utilizing the time to provide emotional support to children, playing with them and they learning new skills by participating in simple chores. Teachers, he said, could make the most of this break by upgrading themselves. He suggested making learning videos, preparing lesson plans and going over new pedagogies.

Even on a day-to-day basis, Tripathi shared some ideas on how one could make the most of the time available. He said first thing in the morning everyone should do was some exercises which include stretching of legs and hands, or Yoga. He then suggested children to help their family members in doing various chores. He encouraged children to help parents in kitchen too as it will ‘be an enjoyable experience’.

He encouraged children to engage in things for which they might not have found the time during a routine academic day like painting, singing, reading storybooks etc.

Tripathi urged the children to engage in role play and recreate scene of a courtroom, a press conference, a market and enact the part. He even suggested recording these scenes and improving upon them by reviewing them again and again.
