JEE Main 2018 Online Application from December 1 to January 2 at official site Jermain.nic.in. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) open JEE Main 2018 registration from 1st December 2017. Joint Entrance Exam the examination system is handled by the CBSE and undertaken for the admissions to B.E, B.Tech, B.Arch, IIT and ISM courses.

Educational Qualification: the candidates must 12th class scores will not be considered for calculating JEE Main All India Rank from 2018. For Schedule cast, ST category the minimum qualifying marks would be 65 percent in the 12th class examination. As per Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) official announcement, for applicants to qualify for admissions to IIT, NIT, IIIT, and CFTI, they must have obtained minimum of 75%.

Age criteria: Candidates DOB should fall on or after 01st October 1993 (for general candidates) and 01, October-1988 (for candidates from SC, ST, and PWD category).

Application fee structure: For Candidates want to appear for the exam in India: The starting fee for Paper 1 or 2. For the second one Paper 1 and 2 both Papers.

• Rs. 500/- SC/ST/PWD/All Female- 900/-
• Rs. 500/- Gen/OBC (Male)-Online 1300/-

Exam pattern: Exams will conduct in two papers. Applicants can apply for both papers. PaperI consists of total 90 objective type questions from Chemistry, Physics, & Mathematics. Paper2 consist of total 82 questions from Mathematics, aptitude test, and drawing test. Each section contains different amount of questions.

Paper-1 for engineering courses (BE, B.Tech)  

Paper2 for Architecture courses (B.Arch. /B.Planning.) Aspirants can opt for either Paper1 (B.E. /B.Tech.) or Paper-2 (B.Arch. /B.Planning.).

State cuts extra marks for arts & culture in SSC

Mumbai: Ahead of the SSC examination in March next year, the state has revised its rules for awarding additional marks to students excelling in arts and culture. Students can now earn up to 15 marks extra, as opposed to 25.

Besides, the state has done away with the 2% reservation students who got the extra marks could avail in first year junior college admissions.

In addition to the marks doled out for participation in sports, for the first time in March 2017, extra marks were given for art and cultural activities for Std X students.

Nearly 81,000 SSC students across the state benefited in the first year. The number of 100 percenters in the state shot up to 193 in the March exam, about five times the number last year. Principals of city schools attributed it to the art and culture marks.

According to a government resolution issued by the school education department on Friday, the new rules will come into effect immediately, from the SSC exam in 2018. “Since it was the first time last year, there was a lack of clarity and we felt there was a need to improve the rules. We consulted experts, reviewed the situation and decided to issue the new rules,” said Suvarna Kharat, deputy secretary, school education department.

Among the major changes is the halving of the additional marks awarded to students passing the intermediate drawing grade examination. In June, TOIhad reported that of the total students snagging extra marks for art and culture in the March 2017 exam, 93% got them for drawing. Similarly, those pursuing classical art will no longer get the additional 25 marks for wins at national or statelevel tournaments or bagging scholarships. In addition, the extra marks in board exams will be given depending on a particular student’s score in the classical art exams (see box).

State board school principals are unhappy. “When the SSC results were announced, a lot of non-state board schools had cried foul. It seems like the state has succumbed to that criticism. Now the state board students will lose out. We had seen an increase in the number of students opting for extracurricular activities this year. The state could extend the concessions to other boards too,” said Prashant Redij, member of the Mumbai principals’ association. The group will meet in the coming week to discuss how to take up the issue with the state government.

Principals said scrapping the 2% reservation will mean students lose their chance to get into colleges of their choice. “There are some colleges which are very popular among students following art and culture because of the theatre groups they have or the industry alumni they boast of. But someone who is seriously dedicating time to an art form may not be able to give enough attention to academics and hence not meet the high cut-off of the college,” said Veena Donwalkar, principal, Chattrapati Shivaji Vidyalaya, Sion.

Rules for the sports extra marks too are likely to be revised. “We are working on the government resolution for sports as well. It is expected to be released soon,” said Kharat. Students can get up to 25 marks extra depending on the level at which they have played a sport.

Applications for JEE (Main) from Dec 1, exam in April

Hyderabad: The application process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main) 2018 will begin from December 1as per the admission notification issued recently by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The exam will be held in the pen and paper mode on April 8, 2018 and in the online mode on April 15-16. Candidates can submit their online application forms till January 2, 2018.

This year, the CBSE has made it mandatory for candidates to submit their Aadhaar details along with application forms. “The use of Aadhaar will result in accuracy of the applicant details,” the notification said.

Of the 258 exam centres across India, 18 are in Andhra Pradesh and six in Telangana.

Assessing Students Academic capability

The following principles should be the guiding factors for the assessment of students:

1. Assessment should bring bene- fit for children. Either they should directly improve his learning capabilities or in improved quality of educational programs.

2. Assessment should be reliable, valid, and fair. There should not be misuse of assessments which could have adverse effects on a student’s academic development.

3. Assessment should be age appropriate in both content and the method of data collection. Assessments of young children should address the full range of early learning and development, including physical well- being and motor development; social and emotional development; approaches toward learning; language development; and cognition and general knowledge.

4. Assessment should be linguistically appropriate, recognizing that to some extent all assessments are measures of language.

5. Parents should be a valued source of assessment information, as well as an audience for assessment. Assessment results should be shared with parents as part of an ongoing process that involves parents in their child’s education.

Govt launches app for e­access to over 150 services

NEW DELHI: Citizens can now access more than 150 central and state services from a mobile application called UMANG.

UMANG, short for Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance, can be downloaded from both Android and Apple app stores. It has been developed by the ministry of electronics and information technology and the National e-Governance Division.

the app integrates services from several government departments. some of the services on it include locating CBsE exam centres and getting results, looking up NCErt syllabus, searching for AICtE-apprived institutions and courses, viewing soil health cards, applying for crop insurance and booking appointments for several hospitals or viewing test reports. In all, 162 services from four state governments and central ministries can be accessed.

It was formally launched by PM Narendra Modi on thursday before he inaugurated the fifth edition of Global Conference on Cyber space here. A senior information technology ministry official said the app was in developmental stage for past 11 months. two months ago the ministry made it available for downloading in a ‘soft’ launch.

Parents can soon take up fee hike grouse with govt panel

Mumbai: Soon, parents and students in the state might be able to file a complaint about fee hikes with the divisional fee regulatory committee (DFRC). The state education department is considering making a change in the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act of 2011 which currently allows only school managements to approach the DFRC.

There has been a constant demand from parents in Mumbai and Pune to allow them to approach the DFRC. In a ruling in July, the Bombay high court had also called for the change.

School education minister, Vinod Tawde on Thursday said, “We are considering the demand to allow parents as well to approach the DFRC. Preliminary meetings to discuss the issue have been scheduled. A decision will be reached only after a series of meetings.”

He, however, added the state may still not allow individual parents to file a complaint. “In case of a fee dispute, there must be consensus among a minimum percentage of parents, only then will the DFRC be able to hear out all complaints,” said Tawde. The department hopes to decide before the start of the next academic year.

Parents are wary of its implementation. “Many parents have an issue with fees but don’t want to step forward and complain. Hence, the state should acknowledge complaints from individuals. The state had set up a committee to propose amendments, but the report has not been submitted yet. These announcements are only an eyewash,” said Prasad Tulaskar, a parent who has been fighting fee hike.

PM launches UMANG app for govt services

NewDelhi:PM Narendra Modi on Thursday formally launched UMANG, a Central and state government services app at the inaugural ceremony of the Global Conference for Cyberspace in New Delhi on Thursday morning.

The ministry of electronics and IT has developed the app along with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). Its name expands to Unified Mobile Application for Newage Governance.

The app has 162 services from 33 state and central government departments in four states. It can be used to locate CBSE exam centres, view school results, calculate crop insurance premium, access soil health cards, book OPD appointments at government hospitals, view lab reports, register for the PMKY programme, raise EPFO claims and more. UMANG integrates with core government services like Aadhaar, DigiLocker, Rapid Assessment System, and Bharat Bill Pay and is available in English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, Malyalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, and Urdu.

Students beware! CBSE class 10, 12 exam 2018 set to begin in March; why you should worry

CBSE Exam 2018: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to conduct the class 10th and 12th board examination in the month of March next year, however, the official date sheet is yet to be released by the board. This comes after several reports earlier suggested that the board might prepone the board examination that are to be conducted in 2018 as part of reforms focused on “error-free” evaluation. No official statement about the board exam dates has been released by CBSE yet. In addition to this, the Central Board of Secondary Education is also planning to sum up the board examination in one month rather than stretching it till the next, according to media reports. This means that is the exams begin in the first week of March, they are most likely to be concluded by the last week of the same month.

Currently, the exams begin in the month of March and are concluded by the third week of April. This news will worry students because now they are most likely to get lesser gaps between two exams and that means less amount of time to study! A total of 10.76 lakh students were registered this year for the board examinations, out of which only 10.20 lakh students appeared for the examination. 8,24,355 students in 2017 were able to successfully qualify the board examinations. Students who are prepping to appear for the board examination of 2018 should note that CBSE usually releases the board examination date sheet for both class 10th and 12th on the same day in the month of January.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently on November 5, 2017 successfully conducted the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test 2017 (UGC NET) for which approximately 9.30 lakh candidates were registered. According to a press release by the board, “The exam was conducted in 91 cities at 1700 exam centres. The candidates appeared in three papers, paper-I of General Awareness was common for all and paper-II and III were conducted out of 84 subjects selected by the candidates.” It also stated, “Approximately 409439 male 519557 female candidates and 3 transgenders registered for the exam. More than 75% candidates appeared in the exam.”

The Online submission of form by the candidates placed in the category NIOP(Class X), FAIL/COMPARTMENT(Class XII) and those who wish to appear for improving their performance or for an additional subject as a Private candidate for the examination scheduled to be held in March 2018 has been started. Details in respect of students who have appeared in the Board examination held in 2017 examination will be auto-generated in the online system. However, Candidates of 2016 (or prior) will need to submit the details on the online application form.
