Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE would be releasing the CBSE Class 12 Result 2020 in the month of July. Class 12 board examinations started from February 15 and were scheduled to end on March 31, 2020. A few papers, however, were cancelled when riots broke out in North East Delhi for the students in the region. Later, with the outbreak of the pandemic, the papers scheduled between March 19 and March 31 were postponed.

 

The board, in its latest announcement, cancelled the remaining papers and released an evaluation criteria based on the marks obtained by the students in the attempted papers as well as the internal marks obtained by the students. Here’s a look at when the board 12th results be declared, the exact date, the passing criteria, evaluation criteria, how to calculate percentage and other Frequently Asked Questions or FAQs on CBSE 12th Result 2020.

 

When will CBSE 12th Result 2020 be released?

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE had stated that the class 12 board results 2020 would be released by July 15, 2020.

 

What is the exact date for CBSE 12th Result 2020?

Exact date for CBSE Class 12 results have not been announced as yet. As per the announcement made by the board, the results would be released anytime ‘by’ July 15. Tentatively, the results can be expected any time in the second week of July. Time would be announced by the board on the day of the declaration.

 

I appeared for only three papers in 2020, how would my score be calculated for the remaining papers?

Students who have appeared in three papers would be scored on the basis of the average of the best of two papers attempted as per CBSE Evaluation Criteria 2020, which was released by the board on May 25.

 

I missed one paper due to lockdown. How would my marks in the remaining paper be calculated?

As per CBSE Evaluation Criteria 2020, the students who have appeared for more than three papers would be marked for the remaining papers on the basis of the average of ‘best of three’. In other words, if a student has say appeared in 4 papers and scored 65, 75, 85 and 95 in the subjects, then for the remaining paper the marks would be averaged taking best of three (in this example 75, 85 and 95).

 

I am from North East Delhi and I could appear for only two papers due to riots and then the Coronavirus lockdown. How would my marks be scored?

For students who have appeared in less than three papers, the marks for the remaining paper would be calculates basis the performance in the examination attempted as well as the internal/ practical/ project assignment marks awarded to the students.

 

If I am not happy with the ‘average’ marks awarded by CBSE for the cancelled paper, what can I do?

CBSE would be conducting the examinations for the cancelled 29 papers at a later date, when it is conducive to conduct the examination. Class 12 students have an option of appearing for these papers at that time. Marks scored by the students opting for the examination at a later date would be considered as final.

 

If I appear for the exams at a later date and score less than the average marks that were awarded, which of the two scores would be considered?

For students who choose to appear for the examinations, the marks scored in such exams would be considered as final – even if the marks thus scored are less than the average marks awarded by CBSE to the student.

 

Would the scores of CBSE Class 12 Result be moderated this year?

Moderation as a policy is adapted by the board to correct the discrepancy in the set of papers and also in accordance to the feedback received by teachers about the difficulty level of the questions. Since many exams were conducted by the board, it can be expected that the board may continue to employ its moderation policy for the subject. As for the papers that were cancelled, since the board may be employing an averaging algorithm using the best marks in other subjects, moderation may not be employed.

 

Does CBSE award Grace Marks? How much ‘grace marks’ can the board give?

CBSE does have a grace mark policy. For a student who is failing by 2 to 5 marks, the board may award grace marks. There is no ‘minimum’ or ‘maximum’ grace marks policy employed by the board. Awarding of grace marks also depends on the performance of the students in the other subjects and also by how many marks the student is failing in the subject.

 

What is the passing criterion for CBSE Class 12 Board Examination?

In order to qualify or pass the CBSE Class 12 board examinations, students need to score a minimum of 33 per cent in each subject. Student is required to score 33 per cent in external or theory paper as well as 33 per cent in the internal assessment. Students need to pass individually in both external (out of 80, 70) and internal (out of 20, 30) mark papers to be awarded a pass in the subject. If a student fails in external but has scored good marks in internal, he would still be awarded as ‘fail’ in the subject.

 

To be promoted, students must scoring the passing marks in 5 subjects. In case a student appears for more than 5 subjects and passes in 5 but fails in the sixth subject, he/she would be marked at ‘pass’. The student would be eligible to appear for the ‘improvement’ in the sixth paper. However, of the 5 papers, the student must be ‘pass’ in one language paper at least.

 

Would the marks in internal and external be combined to determine passing marks?

No. Students are required to score minimum 33% marks individually in both external and internal evaluation.

 

When would the CBSE Mark Sheet be released?

CBSE releases the digital mark sheet almost immediately after the results are announced on DigiLocker. The physical mark sheets are shared with the respective schools within a few days from the declaration of the results. The students can collect the physical copy of their mark sheet from their respective schools at their own convenience.

 

Would the DigiLocker Mark Sheet be valid for admission purposes at colleges/ universities?

Yes. CBSE DigiLocker Mark Sheets are true copies and can be used for admission purposes in various universities and colleges across the country. This year, due to the pandemic, most universities including Delhi University would be accessing the digital mark sheet of the students to complete the verification process.

 

Can I apply for Revaluation of my answer sheets?

Yes. CBSE students can apply for recounting as well as revaluation of the marks awarded. The revaluation process would begin after the results are declared and is completely online.

 

What is the CBSE Revaluation process?

Students can apply for revaluation and recounting of their marks. The process is a three step process of recounting, asking for photo-copy and then revaluation of specific questions. These steps are to be done in the order specified.  Also, for 2020, the revaluation would be open only for the subject papers ‘attempted’ by students and not for the papers which have been awarded ‘averaged out’ marks.

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE has launched a new online course for teachers to train them for online classes. The online course named ‘Experiential Learning’ will be available via the Diksha app and is meant to train teachers and school leaders.

The aim of the online course has to share multi-sensory pedagogic processes involved in experiential learning, sensitise Educators to implement in their classrooms, and make learning more joyful, reflective, and multidisciplinary.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has tweeted on this regard. His tweet reads, “With the objective to promote experiential learning pedagogy in schools, @cbseindia29in association with @tatatrusts has come up with an #innovative & interactive online course on ‘Experiential Learning’ via #DIKSHA meant for Teachers and School Leaders.”

 In another tweet, he said that when our teachers are equipped with 21st-century skills, it becomes easier for our children to absorb and learn those competencies.

As per the notice, teachers who successfully complete the course will be able to download the Course Completion Certificate from DIKSHA. Teachers can also access online training provided by CBSE on an ongoing basis by visiting cbseacademic.nic.in. For more related details, candidates can visit the official site of CBSE.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will train teachers in experiential learning through Diksha platform. While announcing the course, Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) wrote on Twitter, “When our teachers are equipped with 21st-century skills, it becomes easier for our children to absorb and learn those competencies.”

The course is offered by CBSE in collaboration with Tata Trust and is meant for both teachers and school leaders including principals. HRD Minister asked educators to join the course and learn through it. “I would request them all to join this incredible course. Let’s strive to make the learning process for our students more joyful, reflective, and multidisciplinary,” he wrote further.

The course is available on Diksha App, to enroll for the course and CBSE in an official circular said that all teachers and school leaders associated to CBSE take the course “mandatorily”. Teachers will have to download the app and sign-in through their accounts to take the course. On completing the same, they will be awarded a certificate. CBSE will also conduct regional webinars for the hub leaders or lead collaborators in the same.

Explaining the rationale behind it, the central board said, “Educationists world over have realised that education has to take many leaps forward for a world where children are emotionally and physically resilient to face the challenges of a different world to come. For this, we need to create opportunities for children to learn the skills and competencies for the 21st century that correspond to both livelihood and well-being.”

The circular added, “To promote experiential learning pedagogy in schools, CBSE in association with Tata Trust has developed an interactive course on ‘experiential learning’ fir teachers and school leaders.” It claimed that the course will “sensitise educators to implement it in their classrooms and make learning more joyful, reflective and multidisciplinary”.

There is a need for cooperation between parents and school management for proper education of children, said a director of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday.

 

His statement came amid growing discontent among parents of various private schools over, what they claim, irrational fees charged even during the outbreak of COVID-19.

 

“Parents and school management must cooperate and complement each other for the sake of their child’s education as, someday schools are bound to open,” CBSE’s Training & Skills Director Biswajit Saha said at a CII organised e- session on education.

 

It is alleged that several private schools are charging various fees other than tuition fee, which cannot be applicable as institutes are closed during lockdown and only limited virtual classes are being taken.

 

MP Locket Chatterjee and members of the teachers’ cell of the BJP demonstrated outside the state education department office, demanding that private schools be asked not to charge any fee for the entire lockdown period that began in the middle of March.

 

Several states have directed private schools to reduce or exempt fees but the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has only asked the institutes to refrain from hiking fees, she said.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is celebrating the 25th National Reading Day on June 19, 2020.

Today we are celebrating National Reading Day. It is celebrated to honor the father of the Library Movement in Kerala, the late P.N. Panicker, whose death anniversary falls on 19th June. So 19th June is marked as the Day of Reading.

The 25th edition of the P.N. Panicker Memorial National Reading Day – Reading Month Celebration is being celebrated from today in online mode this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

P.N. Panicker, who died on June 19, known as the Father of Library Movement in Kerala. As a teacher in his hometown Panicker started the Sanadanadharmam Library in 1926.

To observe his death anniversary, the National Reading Day is celebrated nationally.

Reading plays a significant role in the development of country's socio-economic progress. Progress of a person, community and country depends on its rich knowledge base. Rich knowledge base depends on reading. 'Read and Grow' is the slogan of the P.N. Foundation.

'#MyBookMyFriend' campaign has started on social media by MHRD to encourage reading among students.

Reading month will be celebrated from June 19 to July 18,2020.

Panicker was born on March 1, 1909 in Jamjamjum to Govinda Pillai and Janaky Amma at Neelamperoor.

A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking uniform education, having common syllabus and curriculum for all the children aged between 6-14 years, across the country.

 

The plea filed by BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay has sough directions to look into the feasibility of establishing “One Nation One Education Board” by merging the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board and the Central Board of Secondary Education.

 

The plea, filed through advocate Ashwani Kumar Dubey, said the Centre and states have not taken appropriate steps to introduce uniform education system having common syllabus and common curriculum in spirit of Article 21A (free and compulsory education).

 

Children may not be able to exercise their fundamental right under Article 21A unless the Centre and the states provide value based uniform education, the plea said.

“To achieve substantive socio-economic equality and justice, it is necessary that syllabus and curriculum in all primary schools are similar whether it is run by management, local body, Union or State Government,” the plea said.

 

The PIL said although the medium of instructions may differ according to the official language of the concerned state, the syllabus and curriculum must be common for all children aged 6-14 years.

 

The petition has sought directions to ascertain the feasibility of constituting a National Education Council (on the lines of GST Council) or National Education Commission to implement the system.

 

At present each education board has its own syllabus and curriculum and entrance examinations are based on CBSE, so prevailing system doesn’t provide equal opportunity to all students, it said.

 

The plea has also sought directions to ascertain the feasibility of introducing a standard textbook having chapters on fundamental rights, duties, directive principles and the golden goals set out in the Preamble, and make its study compulsory for all the children aged 6-14 years throughout the country.

 

It contended that from last ten years data, it can be seen that even though children are pursuing free and compulsory education under RTE Act, the students do not perform well as compared to CBSE affiliated convent and private schools.  Therefore, value-based uniform education having common syllabus and common curriculum is need of the day, it said.

“State board students are not equipped to compete with students of CBSE affiliated schools. Even this disparity cannot be fully removed but Union can establish a standardized entrance system for college and university aspirants,” the plea said.

CTET 2020: Over 30 lakh candidates had registered to appear for the exam, scheduled to be held on July 5. The CBSE has released previous year papers to help candidates assess their preparation.

CBSE CTET 2020: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released previous year question papers for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2020. The exam is scheduled to be held on July 5 and candidates can check their preparedness by solving the previous year question papers as available at ctet.nic.in.

 

Over 30 lakh candidates had registered to appear for the CTET 2020. This is a rise from 28.32 lakh in December 2019. Those who clear CTET are considered eligible to seek a job as a teacher. Those who clear paper 1 will be eligible to teach in classes 1 to 5 while those who clear paper 2 can teach in classes 6 to 7.

CBSE CTET 2020: Exam pattern

 

In paper I for classes 1 to 5, candidates will have to clear a two-and-a-half-hour exam which will have 150 MCQs. Each question will be for one mark and hence the exam will be of 150 marks. It will consist of topics — child development and pedagogy, a language I and II, mathematics and environmental studies. Each section will consist of 30 MCQs or 30 marks.

 

In paper II as well there will be 150 questions for 150 marks to be solved in two-and-a-half-hour, however, it will have different sub-topics. While child development and pedagogy, language I and language II will be there for 30 marks each. The fourth section will be of either mathematics or science of social science, as per the choice of candidate. The section four will be of 60 marks.

 

To clear the exam, the candidates need to secure 60 per cent marks out of 150 marks. For reserved category candidates, the cut-off is 55 per cent which comes to around 82 marks out of 150. In CTET December 2019, a total of 5.42 lakh candidates had qualified the examination.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday released a notice stating that it will be celebrating the 25th National Reading Day on Friday, June 19, 2020, with a special focus on technology-enabled reading.

 

“The 25th National Reading will be celebrated on 19th June 2020, the following week as Reading Week and Reading Month will be celebrated from 19th June to 18th July 2020,” reads the CBSE notice.

 

The National Reading Day is commemorated to honour the father of the Library Movement, Late P.N. Panicker whose death anniversary also falls on June 19.

 

The PN Panicker Foundation in collaboration with the government has initiated and designed different online reading-related activities due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

 

The Foundation has suggested conducting Quiz, Open Art and Essay Writing and Debate Competition for the students while it will conduct Quiz and video book competition for the faculty members and Librarians.

Students can also benefit from digital classrooms as they can receive almost instantaneous feedback and personalized feedback.

Teaching and learning are not the same things. While a teacher might be able to give instruction or lesson to over 100 students in a classroom, they can never be sure exactly how much of the topic was actually understood or learned by the students. In the ICSE/CBSE context, where schools have a large number of students per class, ensuring and checking the learning of each student is rather difficult. Digital classrooms are an efficient way of ensuring learning takes place in an efficient and productive manner.

Testing is the only way to understand student learning. Based on their test outcomes, teachers can assess where the students stand overall. However, in the setting of large classrooms of 40 students, this becomes difficult. At best a teacher can assess learning by asking a handful of student’s questions. Assessments for the whole class could traditionally only take place 2 to 3 times a year. With digital classrooms, large scale testing becomes a lot easier. Not only can each student be given a short quiz at the end of each lesson, or the end of each day, teachers are getting students’ scores immediately from the testing platforms. Teachers save a major portion of their time that would otherwise have gone in doing physical paper grading, and can now dedicate that time to analyzing each students performance either daily or weekly, and ensuring students are brought up to speed before they fall too far behind.

Students can also benefit from digital classrooms as they can receive almost instantaneous feedback and personalized feedback. Learning management systems have the options for automated feedback, where a student is corrected almost immediately at the end of the test while the information is still relevant, rather than a few days later. The personalized feedback can also happen from teacher to students as soon as they are able to review their scores and guide them where needed. Teachers are no longer dependent on face to face meetings or finding time within the busy school day of both student and teacher to help a student out. Feedback in ongoing, and immediate.

Digital classrooms will therefore also utilize the teachers time more efficiently. The time that would have gone in physically correcting test scores, will now be done in a matter of minutes. This will not only free up their time for lesson planning but also works as a feedback tool on students learning as well as feedback. The test scores will also give the teachers an understanding of their basic teaching and if students have understood or not, or if some part of the execution needs improvement from their end. It keeps teachers engaged in ensuring they are rolling out lessons to the students in an engaging manner.

Digital classrooms help put the focus on learning rather than teaching. Checks and balances can be put in place more frequently to ensure both students and teachers are on the right path, and their time is being used more efficiently. As we move forward, no longer can we depend on the traditional classroom of the past. Schools will need to use a blended approach to digital and physical classrooms. Digital classrooms will allow for greater efficiency while allowing traditional classroom time to be used more constructively and yet keep its community and personal touch.

What are the objections to holding the Class 12 CBSE exams in July, and why is the decision still hanging fire despite fierce opposition from the parents? We explain.

Why have parents approached the top court against holding Class 12 Board exams in July?

The most obvious concern that parents have is whether it’s safe to send their children even as many states continue to report a record surge in Covid-19 positive cases on most days. CBSE has increased the number of examination centres from 3,000 to 15,000 to maintain social distancing. But parents have questioned the practicality of ensuring proper cleanliness and safety measures at so many centres (especially those located in rural areas) and that students wear gloves and masks in the July heat and humidity. However, the biggest objection is to the Board’s silence on how students living in hotspots and containment zones are going to travel to their test centres, given the restrictions on movement in such areas.

So, why is the issue of holding CBSE Board exams still hanging fire, despite vehement objections from a section of students and parents?

The decision is not simple. Any change would have an immediate effect on admission to higher education institutions. Hypothetically, if CBSE decides to postpone the Board exams, then national entrance tests such as NEET, JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) would, in all likelihood, also be delayed. To scrap the exam or make it optional, the Board would have to come up with an alternate method of evaluation.

CBSE officials are also concerned that if exams are made optional, then those opting out could face discrimination at the time of seeking admission to a university or college of their choice. At least that’s what the Board had observed during the years when the Class 10 Board exams were optional. Many schools accepting lateral admissions in Class XI, at that time, would often prefer students who had taken the Board exam.

What has further complicated matters are states like Delhi and Maharastra, which have expressed inability to help the Board in conducting the exams as the two states are currently overwhelmed with Covid-19 cases.

 

What have other school boards done?

While State School Boards in Telangana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have cancelled their Class 10 Board exams, no one has, till date, scrapped the exam for Class 12. Kerala has even conducted Board exams for 13 lakh Class 10 & 12 students in the last week of May. The state finance minister Thomas Isaac tweeted this week that none of the students had shown symptoms two weeks after the exams finished.

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has decided to make the remaining papers for Class 10 and 12 students optional. Students can opt to have their results tabulated based on their performance in their school’s pre-board exams.

When is CBSE’s decision expected?

The Supreme Court has given the Board time till Tuesday to respond to the plea filed by parents for scrapping the exams. HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has already met with the Home Minister and spoken to the Health Minister this week on this issue. He also held a meeting with the school education secretary Anita Karwal, CBSE chief Manoj Ahuja and Director General of National Testing Agency Vineet Joshi on Tuesday and another one is expected today. A decision on this matter is likely next week on Monday.

SC asks CBSE to decide on holding of pending exams by Tuesday

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to hold consultation and take a decision on Board exam by Tuesday when it will consider a plea of parents for not holding exams in view of corona pandemic.

 

Also the apex court asked the Board to examine whether examination of the remaining paper for Board exam could be scrapped and s could be alloted on the basis of internal assessment.

 

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had said that schools, colleges, educational/training/coaching institutions will be opened after consultation with States and UTs during Phase II of Unlock1.

 

Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had on Tuesday held a review meeting with the Secretary of School Education and Literacy Department, Chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education and Director General of National Testing Agency (NTA), to discuss the present education scenario.

Maharashtra HSC, SSC Results 2020: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will declare the results of Maharashtra HSC or Class 12 examinations by mid-July and Maharashtra SSC or class 10 examination results by end of July. Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced this on Tuesday, June 16.

 

Students who have appeared in the Maharashtra HSC and SSC examinations will be able to check their results online at maharesult.nic.in after it is declared.

 

Maharashtra Class 12th board examinations were conducted before the lockdown began, while the Geography paper of SSC exams which was earlier scheduled for March 23 could not be held. The Maharashtra board in May cancelled the SSC Geography exam and said that the students will be awarded an average of the marks obtained in the other five subjects for the last paper.

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday told CBSE to consider scrapping of remaining papers of class 10th and 12th board exams and to allot marks on the basis of internal assessment. A 3-judge bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar asked CBSE to take instructions and inform by Tuesday. The Court was hearing a petition by a parent Amit Bathla seeking scrapping of exams in the present situation. CBSE has planned to conduct the examinations for remaining papers between July 1 and July 15.

 

The plea was filed by some parents of students who are appearing in class 12th examination. The plea sought a direction to the CBSE to declare the results on the basis of exam already conducted and to calculate it on an average basis with internal assessment marks of the remaining subjects. Raising concern over the safety of lakhs of students, the plea said that they might be exposed to COVID-19 infection if they have to appear in the examinations amid increasing number of coronavirus cases.

 

The plea also alleged that considering the gravity of COVID-19 pandemic, the CBSE has cancelled the examinations of Class X and XII for its around 250 schools which are situated abroad and has adopted the criteria of awarding marks on the basis of either practical exams or the internal assessment marks.
