CBSE 10th Science board exam 2020: How to score good marks in the paper

CBSE 10th Science board exam 2020 preparation tips: CBSE Class 10 board exams 2020 will be held from February 15 to March 20. The Science exam will be conducted on March 4.
EDUCATION||  | Hindustan Times, New Delhi |  Updated: Jan 17, 2020

CBSE Class 10 board exams 2020 will be held from February 15 to March 20. The Science exam will be conducted on March 4.
Students generally find the science exam difficult as it contains three different sections – Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It becomes hard to score when one focuses in only a particular science section. If you want to score good marks in Science, you will have to focus on all the sections equally.

Here are some useful tips for the CBSE class 10 Science exam

Physics
Formulae: Students should focus on remembering formulae to solve numericals in the Physics section. Most numericals are usually from Newton’s laws of motion and its applications, series and parallel combination of resistances and reflection and refraction.
Diagrams: Diagrams, too, are considered an area which is high  coring. Diagrams like AC and DC generator, lines of the magnetic field around a solenoid and a bar magnet, electric circuit diagram, image formation by lenses and mirrors, glass prism, and the human eye, have been a common feature in previous years’ question papers.

Biology
Terminologies: Different terminologies are used in Biology, which makes this subject a little complicated. Students should make separate notes of such terms and revise them regularly. Mendel’s experiments are considered an important topic.
Diagrams:  There are no numericals in Biology so diagrams play an important role in this subject. Students, while practicing diagrams, should pay attention to reflex action, respiratory system, human brain, female and male reproductive organs and different parts of a flower.

Chemistry
Equations: Thoroughly practice chemical equations. One should make separate notes of uses of acids, bases and salt and their compounds.
Periodic Table: Make your own system to remember the periodic table. Carbon compounds and its functional groups are key topics.
Apart from the aforementioned tips, students should not forget to practice previous years’ question papers and model tests. This will help them get accustomed to recurring questions.

CBSE Board exam 2020: Extra classes, mock tests help students get ready for boards
Minati Singha| TNN | Updated: Jan 16, 2020

BHUBANESWAR: With Class X and XII board exams hardly a month away, schools in the city are busy conducting doubt clearing sessions and taking extra classes for students. WhatsApp groups, house visits, mentorship and mock tests are being taken by city schools to ready students for the board examinations.
However, teachers and students feel they don't get adequate time as the examination has been pre-poned this year. The board examinations are starting from February 15 instead of the usual March first week.
"Though courses have already been completed, revisions, doubt-clearing and practice of sample question papers require more time. If students do not get adequate time for practicing then their confidence level will get affected," said Prajna Paramita Mishra, a teacher in a city school.
Besides by conducting the practical board examinations in January instead of February has again reduced the preparation time for students which otherwise would have been used for revision classes.
Teachers in DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, said apart from doubt clearing sessions they are conducting very similar tests and making them practice as many question banks. "Apart from CBSE sample papers, our teachers have also prepared question banks for students to practice. The tests are highly beneficial for slow learners. Teachers have been asked to WhatsApp groups and to address doubts of students immediately. Besides, there is zero mark test where scoring will be done in minus and the highest mark is zero," said Debendra Pati, senior teacher of the school.
Due to shortage of time many schools are also conducting extra classes during Saturdays. "The board examinations have been preponed by almost 15 days but revisions have to be done within the time. Teachers are asking us to come to school on Saturdays and holidays too. There are also model examinations which we have to attend before the board examinations," said Rakesh Pani, student of Class X.
"We have assigned 10 students under one mentor or teacher, who will look after the doubts and revisions of those students. Besides there are regular practice and mock tests going on for students besides counselling sessions to reduce their stress and boost their confidence level before the examinations," said Sarat Kar, spokesperson of SAI International School.

For Class 10th Board exam, the preparation time is quite strenuous for students. This year almost 20 lakh students are expected to appear for this exam, which is scheduled by mid-February. During the preparation time, students deal with pressure from parents and peers at school.
Students should be mentally prepared that these board exams are also just like any other exam they appeared earlier in their lives. The only difference is this the first nationalised exams, where they would be competing with several students pan India. Instead of worrying about factors that they cannot control, they should work towards improving their subject knowledge and stay away from the pressure.

Preparation tips for CBSE Class Xth board exams to avoid stress and anxiety are:
Practice solving paper
Get the sample papers of past years that are available in bookstores and solve the papers within the stipulated time to test your knowledge base in different subjects. When you prepare and write down the answers to these questions, you get a better idea of the exam format and how to approach and solve questions during the exam.

Keep fit and stay relaxed
It is very crucial to keep fit and healthy during the entire exam preparation time and more importantly, before the exams. Only then you can give your best shot. Eat healthily, get proper sleep, drink adequate water and exercise regularly when you are preparing for the exams. More important is that you should stay away from unnecessary stress. Avoid junk food and overeating to keep lethargy at bay.

Do not leave any topic for the end
There is a possibility that you may find a few topics a bit difficult and may leave that topic to study in the end or at the last moment. This would create a lot of pressure on you just before the exams. Please cover all topics, including the ones you find difficult a few months before the exams begin. Approach your teachers or parents to understand the difficult topics or the topics in which you feel you are comparatively weak and be 100 per cent ready before your exams.

Make brief notes while studying
Create brief and precise notes from textbooks, reference books when you are preparing for a particular topic so that you improve your understanding of the same. For each subject, prepare separate notes. Ensure to highlight important formulae and headings so that you can find it easily when you revise the topics later.

Make a time table
Ahead of two or three months of the board exams make a time-table giving enough time to every subject. Don't forget to include short breaks in between long hours of study so that your mind gets refreshed. Short breaks will help you to retain and apply information better.

Self-evaluation
Discuss with your friend, your parent or talk to a mentor and find out more about your strengths and weaknesses related to a particular subject. Work on the topics that you feel you are weak and give your best to improve yourself.

Practice writing
During your actual board exam, you have to write a lot that too at a uniform speed to complete the paper within a specified time. Start taking practise tests within allocated periods it will help you a lot, and you can assess yourself where you stand in this domain. The grades in your board exams would impact your career graph. At CBSE science exhibition, students propose sustainable solutions for problems

HT Correspondent | Jan 16, 2020

Gurugram: From a prototype of a smart seat belt that detects heartbeat and alcoholic content to an environment-friendly urinal and an LED-enabled safety system for quick response during crisis situations to a smoke absorber, around 600 such projects from schools across the country are on display at the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE’s) annual science exhibition for 2019-20 that commenced in Suncity School in the city on Thursday.
The theme of the exhibition is ‘Science and technology for sustainable development with a thrust on water conservation’, with students and teachers from over a hundred schools participating in the three-day event that will continue till January 18. CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal, who inaugurated the exhibition on Thursday, shared that around 599 project ideas, among the highest number of entries received in the past many years, would be displayed during the exhibition which was aimed at cultivating scientific temper. She also said that CBSE was committed towards encouraging scientific temper not only in students in the science stream but other fields as well.
“Scientific temper needs to be encouraged across streams. So far, we have seen enthusiastic participation from children towards science and this needs to be amplified. CBSE will also be starting a science olympiad in June-July next year with the same purpose. The aim of the olympiad will be to encourage scientific enquiry and temper,” said Karwal.
Most of the projects on display have some social or environmental relevance and primarily covered seven sub-themes: sustainable agricultural practices, health and cleanliness, resource management, industrial development, futuristic transport and communication, educational games and mathematical modelling.
Under the theme of sustainable environmental practices, a team of students from a Chennai school developed a project that focused on reutilization of reject RO water through the technique of phycoremediation. Other projects included a smart irrigation system and a plasma gasification unit for creating energy from waste.

CBSE Class 12 Practical Board Exams 2020 begin – important pointers for students

CBSE Class 12 Practical Board Exams 2020 begin – teachers share important pointers for students

Education | Times Now Digital | Jan 10, 2020

Schools have started CBSE Board 2020 Practical Examinations - both internal and external examinations. Teachers share important pointers for students for their practical examinations and how to score well.

Schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE have started with the CBSE Class 12 Board Practical Examinations 2020. Other than the schools in the northern hilly states, the dates for CBSE Practical examination are from January 1, 2020 to February 7, 2020. Practical examinations have excellent potential of scoring well for all students. Teachers have shared basic pointers for students to help them excel in the CBSE Board Practical Examination.
Under the new scheme, almost all the subjects have a practical examination. Science stream subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology have a 30 mark practical while the other subjects like Accountancy, Business Studies, etc., have a 20 mark practical examination. All students are assessed on three basic elements for their CBSE Board Practical Examinations – the project file, the written/ practical examination and the Viva Voice.

CBSE Board Practical Examinations 2020: 3 Things to remember
1.         Go through your project file: Teachers reiterate that it is important to go through your project file. Most of the students submit the projects by September and promptly forget much about the projects as they get busy. Projects are important and examiners often ask students to talk about and explain the project work. It is hence important for students to be thorough with their project reports and go through the findings and reports that were submitted.
2.         Viva Voice can be from any part of the syllabus: Students can be asked any question from their syllabus. Hence it is important to be thorough with your preparation even for practical examinations. Also, teachers share how students often do not go through the various practical that they have done through the year. It is a board examination and students ought to be prepared for the same.
3.         Basic Examination Etiquettes and Discipline: Teachers often share how examiners are upset when students present for the board practical in casuals. It is a board examination and looking the part is equally important. Students must ensure that they are dressed in neatly ironed uniform appropriate for the weather and are well groomed. Shabby students may often upset the examiner who can then ask rather difficult and confusing questions during viva voice. Being humble is important – a teacher points out.

Apart from these, teachers simply ask students to pay attention to the instructions given by their subject teachers during the practical examination. The biggest advantage is that the students give their practical examination within their schools and their subject teachers are usually present. The familiar surroundings make them more comfortable. But through it all, students must remember that they can ace their practicals with little effort, only if they listen.

How ‘Brother John’ rhyme is making hand hygiene fun for kids

How ‘Brother John’ rhyme is making hand hygiene fun for kids

Singing the steps of good handwashing technique to the tune of a popular nursery rhyme may help young children learn the process and fend off common infections picked up in school, a small Canadian study suggests. Nisha Thampi and colleagues adapted the tune of the song Brother John, also known as Frere Jacques, replacing its lyrics with a six-step handwash practice prescribed by World Health Organization.

Because there didn’t seem to be an existing musical video targeted at children showing the six-step technique using the recommended handwash, Thampi and colleagues decided to develop their own musical mnemonic. They wrote the lyrics with the help of schoolchildren. “To get my own children to wash their hands with the proper technique, I played with each step until it fell into a song pattern that flowed nicely to the tune of Brother John,” Thampi said.

The Brother John lyrics: “Are you sleeping, are you sleeping, Brother John, Brother John, Morning bells are ringing, morning bells are ringing, Ding, ding, dong; ding, ding, dong”

. . . were replaced with: “Scrub your palms, between the fingers, wash the back (one hand), wash the back (other hand) Twirl the tips (one hand) around (other hand), scrub them upside down, Thumb attack (one thumb)! Thumb attack (other thumb)!”

Thampi then used her 8-year-old daughter as a test case. “She heard the first version of the song and helped revise it to have better flow. She demonstrated it to her friends and classmates,” Thampi said.

To test whether the routine would be effective in removing germs, the researchers applied fluorescent markings on the hands of the children, who were between 6 and 9 years old, before they washed with soap and water while singing the song. After the routine, there was a significant reduction in the markings, according to a report in ‘The BMJ’.

“This song is a fun way to teach children how to wash their hands and has the potential to decrease the burden of germs on hands, a very common way of catching an infection,” Thampi said. REUTERS
