BHOPAL: It is official, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
controller of exam KK Choudhury on Monday confirmed to TOI that CBSE
will compensate students of class 10 for English paper goof up which led to
chaos and confusion among students across the county.
The English paper which was scheduled on March
12, 2018 was massively criticized by teachers as well as students across the
country after students were left confused over an error in passage section.
“It was a typo error which led to the confusion and it
is certainly in our notice. We have decided not to put any student on
disadvantage. The students will be benefited definitely and it will be taken
care of at the time of marking scheme to be prepared by the board,” Controller
Exams CBSE K K Choudhury told TOI over phone from New Delhi.
He said the benefit of marks will be decided later.
“Our team is working on it,” he added.
Earlier reports were making rounds on WhatsApp groups
that CBSE has decided to give away 2 marks for the error. However, the board
said that number marks would be decided later after marking scheme is released.
Although the question paper appeared to be an easiest
one unlike other papers but due to the ‘Typo’, Students across the country were
apprehensive about losing their marks and some students in Bhopal even started
an online petition against errors and sought CBSE intervention.
The passage section of paper where students were
expected to find synonyms of endurance, obstruction and motivation in
paragraphs two, four and five, respectively had its answers in answers in paras
three and six.
Some students even pointed out another type of error
in the paper where the word ‘or’ was missing between the parts two questions
given, which led to panic among the examinees and confusion among the students.
The students had to attempt a 10 marks question within
200-250 words given in the novel section of the question paper.
